Legal Trouble for Ekta and Shobha Kapoor: POCSO Act Complaint Filed Over “Gandi Baat” Season 6’s Obscene Content

A complaint has been filed against Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the POCSO Act, related to the display of obscene scenes in ALT Balaji’s web series Gandi Baat Season 6:

Producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, are facing legal trouble as a serious complaint has been lodged against them. The issue pertains to Season 6 of the web series Gandi Baat, which was streamed on the OTT platform ALT Balaji. The complaint accuses them of violating the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

Allegations of Obscenity

The primary accusation against Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor is that they showcased inappropriate and obscene scenes involving minor girls in one of the episodes of Gandi Baat Season 6. The complaint specifies that between February 2021 and April 2021, the web series, which was available on ALT Balaji, included these inappropriate scenes. Currently, the controversial episode is no longer being streamed on the platform.

What Is the Full Case About?

The complainant has alleged that, apart from showing obscene content involving minors, the series also offended religious sentiments by using a cigarette advertisement that insulted revered historical figures and saints. This, the complainant claims, caused emotional distress. Furthermore, some scenes in the episode allegedly violated the rules under the POCSO Act.

Violations of Multiple Laws

In addition to the POCSO Act, the content has reportedly violated several other laws. These include the Information Technology Act of 2000, the Women’s Prohibition Act of 1986, and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act of 2003. These violations have added more complexity to the case.

Current Status

Ekta Kapoor is the Joint Managing Director and Creative Head of Balaji Telefilms Limited, while Shobha Kapoor serves as its Managing Director. As of now, neither Ekta Kapoor nor Shobha Kapoor has issued a public response regarding the complaint.

The case continues to develop, with no official statement yet from the defendants.
